AWS PPA and AWS EDP are essentially indistinguishable, and the two programs can be used interchangeably. AWS Account Managers often recommend alternate programs when introducing discounted programs to business users.
AWS EDP is the AWS Cloud Services Discount Program tailored for owners of high volume and long-term spending with AWS. This program is designed to help AWS users achieve sustainability by saving more while growing their business on the cloud.
Cloud cost incentives are especially important at a time when the global economy is in a state of recession and cost savings are on every organization’s mind.
AWS EDP is a systematic discount agreement that encourages AWS users to maintain a long-term partnership. As long as your AWS bill reaches a certain amount, your AWS rewards are predictable.
AWS EDP is a discount agreement that can be tailored to each customer with a high spending commitment at a cloud provider. This is used to maintain a long-term partnership.
AWS clients that qualify for the EDP program usually spend more than $1 million per year on AWS services and plan to have at least equal spending commitments in future years. Discount offers vary depending on various parameters, but the basic discount for $1M+ per year might be 6% (in this example 9%) of AWS’ typical on-demand pricing model.
Consider a simple case example:
The AWS PPA is also a pricing agreement designed to optimize cloud costs for enterprises to maximize business benefits. It offers discounted pricing no matter what the solution or service. The PPA is not limited to AWS cloud service discounts, but can also be utilized to streamline the process by procuring third-party services through the AWS marketplace.
For instance, you may optimize the value of your PPAs by carefully researching solutions that complement your business objectives, or you can use your current PPA agreements to integrate your cloud purchase and expedite the procurement process.
AWS PPA and AWS EDP are essentially indistinguishable, and the two programs can be used interchangeably, with AWS Account Managers often recommending alternate programs when introducing discounted programs to users of the business. The reason why they can be used interchangeably is that both programs are essentially serving to get users the right discounts.
But it’s still worth distinguishing between the types of discounts. there are three core commercial discounts in AWS contracts: cross-service discounts, service-specific discounts, and credits.
The EDP and PPA programs have been functionally identical for customers for some years; some smaller contracts would still have the EDP noted on them, while larger contracts were structured as PPAs. This was a flawed abstraction to the client because it exposed them to pointless internal details, which confused them. Previously, the EDP was the only contractual vehicle for obtaining cross-service discounts, while the PPA offered service-specific discounts as an addendum to the EDP contract.
Every contract you see now reads Private Pricing or PPA. That suggests it’s time to upgrade your language:
Our EDP discount is 12%. → We offer a cross-service discount of 12%.
For what PPAs are we negotiating? → What discounts are we negotiating for that are specific to our services?
Don’t worry, you’re not missing anything if your new contract states PPA and your old one said EDP. Simply said, it’s a new name.
AWS discount programs are set up for companies with large cloud billing volumes, so many small and medium-sized businesses don’t get the discounts they want. To help startups as well, AWS has launched the AWS reseller partnership.
Through AWS Reseller, you can buy AWS services from reputable partners who provide more than just the essentials—like extra support, tailored solutions, and knowledgeable advice to help you make the most of the cloud.
To guarantee access to lower pricing, Hfengyun negotiates long-term contracts with AWS and combines billing for several sub-accounts. You may benefit from these discounted rates by becoming a member of our AWS organization. We take care of the risk, so you may increase your computing and storage as needed without worrying about going over budget.
Cloud service charges are lowered without requiring an enterprise-level commitment. Additionally, you will receive individualized assistance, knowledgeable advice, and even complimentary credits to increase your savings.
You only give us access to your billing details and nothing else. We do not have access to view or touch your code, instances, or data.
We can assist you if you need someone to review every aspect of your AWS infrastructure to make plans or if you need a second opinion on your AWS architecture before a major product launch.
